Nick Cave
For this studio, we were asked to create a finger puppet using modeling clay. My finger puppet demonstrates the big idea of celebrations because it is a celebration of me! I chose to celebrate the things that make me unique. On my puppet I put the hair in a ponytail and a blue headband. I chose to celebrate my love for Captain America by having my puppet wear a Captain America t-shirt. For my puppet’s hands I chose to celebrate my classic thumbs up photo pose and celebrate my career choice (an apple because I’m going to be a teacher).
In my classroom I think that students could make finger puppets t celebrate themselves, holidays, and other cultures. Modeling clay is something that most students can manipulate and it is easy to purchase. It is important to celebrate individuality and diversity within the classroom and I think this is a unique way to do so.
Norman Rockwell
For this studio, we were ask to create a magazine cover that celebrates things that are common and often overlooked, change and invention, or celebrate tradition and the past. These magazine covers depict the big idea of celebration because a magazine cover is a place where things are published for the audience to see. My Norman Rockwell magazine cover shows a celebration – my Mom’s 50th birthday. The title of my magazine is Scrapbook Superstars because it celebrates my Mom’s talent and love for scrapbooking. Thousands (maybe even a million) people have a birthday everyday and often times these things get overlooked. I think that it is important to celebrate every year of life someone is given and I feel that my magazine cover does just that.
In my classroom I am definitely going to have my students make magazine covers! I love this idea and I think that it is something that students of all artistic abilities can accomplish. In literacy, this could be used as a different type of summative assessment that goes beyond the traditional book report. Students could create a magazine cover to celebrate historical figures, events, inventions or literary characters, themes, or dealings. These are only a fraction of the ways I could use this in my future classroom.

Artist Choice
For this studio we could choose any art project to create. I chose to create a still life to use as an example in my unit plan. My piece of artwork represents the big idea of celebrations because it celebrates something I love – teaching! In my unit plan, the big idea is life. for their visual art lesson, students will create an original artwork that communicates ideas about the following themes: places (e.g., school, home, stores, neighborhood, countryside). My still life is of my future desk which will (hopefully) be located in a school. So, in my future classroom I would use this lesson in several ways. If I teach second grade, I will be using the whole unit plan in my classroom. If I teach another grade, I can definitely adapt this lesson to fit the standards for that grade.
